The Post a School Alert tool is used to post an alert when schools are closed for the day. Only users who are designated as School Closers in their user settings can close a school and they can only close schools for which they have permission to access. When a school is closed from the Post a School Alert tool the posting is applied to the Public BusPlanner Alerts. It is removed at the end of the day.
Posting a School Alert
•Zone – If the database has zones set a school closer can chose to close all schools in a geographic area.
•Reason – The reason for the school closure. This must be filled in from a preloaded list of reasons in BusPlanner Web. If more reasons are needed contact the local transportation department to get them added.
•District / Group – These will filter the list of schools below, making it easier to choose the right schools. To filter, chose a district or group, and click Search.
•School – You can choose multiple schools. This is limited to only those schools for which you have access.
•Do not send mail to subscribers or associated severity addresses – This will only post the closure on the Alerts page, but not send out emails.
•Close School – Posts the school alert to BusPlanner Web. This will post the alert on the public side of the website and make the appropriate personnel aware of the closure. For school cancellations, the School Administrator and any bus operators with routes for that school will be notified when a school closure posting is made.
The School Closure – Posting Results
•School – The name of the school for which the alert applies. This is limited to only those schools for which you have access.
•Reason – The reason for the school closure. This must be filled in from a preloaded list of reasons in BusPlanner Web. If more reasons are needed, contact the local transportation department to get them added.
•Time – The time the closure was posted to BusPlanner Web.
•No Email – This indicates no email was sent (as indicated by the "Do not send mail ..." option above.)
•Cancel – If a closure is still active, the cancel link is available which allows you to cancel a school closure. If the closure has been cancelled, a date and time of the cancellation are posted, as well as which user cancelled the posting.
•Delete – This allows you to delete the alert so it no longer appears to the public. No email will be sent out. A time stamp will appear next to it showing when it was deleted, and it will continue to appear in this list during its active time.
